What Can I Expect During Laser Tattoo Removal?
Laser tattoo removal works best if you:
- Have a strong immune system. A strong immune system helps the body’s ability to dispose of the broken down ink properties.
- Are in good overall health. Not smoking and eating a well-balanced diet aid the body’s immune system in working at max efficiency.
- Have deep differences between the ink color and the pigment of the skin. The greater the contrast, the greater the result.
- Have older tattoos. The older a tattoo is, the better it will respond to treatment.
Before removal, the tattoo will be prepped with a careful cleansing and an application of numbing cream. Our technician will then pass the device over the tattooed skin as it releases energy and pulsing laser light. We use the Q-Switch laser technology, a noninvasive laser that shatters tiny pigmented fragments and stimulates collagen production for healing. The treatment time can vary, depending on the size and type of the tattoo.
If you choose to add the DESCRIBE PFD Patch to your treatment, the silicone square patch infused with perfluorodecalin (PFD) allows technicians to pass over the tattoo several times during the laser procedure. It helps reach the ink deep within the skin, which also may be beneficial for older tattoos. The patch reduces pain, redness, and swelling.
After each session, an ointment will be applied to your treated skin along with bandages to keep the area protected. You can expect redness, swelling, and sensitivity. You may also feel a sunburned sensation followed by a slight scabbing. It is important to adhere to aftercare instructions carefully to speed up the recovery process. Our team recommends scheduling treatments more than 4 – 7 weeks apart.
